August supermoon in San Francisco

Sunday night’s supermoon was the brightest and closest to Earth in 20 years. It was 14% bigger and about 30% brighter than usual. I did my usual research about possible locations in the week leading to the Full Moon. I found one promising location but Saturday was an extremely foggy day here in the San Francisco Bay. I had made up my mind that it was not worth going, until late Sunday afternoon, when a friend of mine sent me this text: “Moon shoot tonight?”. He lives in San Francisco so he had direct information that our friend...

Autocross at Alameda Naval Base

Autocross at Alameda Naval Base

A couple weeks ago, I went to take pictures of the PCA GGR Autocross in the old Alameda Naval Base. An autocross is a circuit marked by traffic cones that you have to go through as fast as possible without touching any cones. It’s a very safe way to drive your car at its limits (or at your limits) with very low risks. The course is setup at the old Alameda Navy Base, on the old runway. There is plenty of space for you to spin out of control without touching anything (except your ego). The view from there is fantastic, you are on the...

One evening exhibit on 09/13/2014 (6pm to 10pm)

One evening exhibit on 09/13/2014 (6pm to 10pm)

One evening only, two artists! Vannina and I have been collaborating for years. She sometimes uses one of my photos as an inspiration or a guide for her amazing work. I sometimes use her ‘impossible to get’ angles of the Golden Gate Bridge or Paris as motivation for getting that image. For one evening only, we have joined forces and offer you an exhibit to see both our work together. All my work on display that evening will be on sale. First buyer will have the opportunity to pick up the art at the end of the exhibit. Date:...

Burma/Myanmar – Bagan pagodas and temples (Shwesandaw, Shwezigon and Sulamani)

Burma/Myanmar – Bagan pagodas and temples (Shwesandaw, Shwezigon and Sulamani)

After landing in Bagan early in the morning, we went directly to the Shwesandaw pagoda, which offers an impressive view of Bagan and makes you understand why it is so popular. From the upper terrace, you can see hundreds of Buddhist temples and monuments. Bagan was once the capital city of the first Kingdom of Pagan. During the kingdom’s height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still...

On location: June portraits

In June, I offered portrait images at a lower price. The success has been incredible, I have never been so busy than this past month. In total I had 8 portrait sessions, in 24 days and was very fortunate to work with incredible talents like Debbie, Kara, Sudeep, Brittany, Wendy, Joey, Bruce, Luka, Joe and Taurus the robot. I always try to have two models per session so I can be more efficient (one model is getting ready, while the other is being photographed). We had sessions on location in San Francisco, and some sessions in studio. Here...

July supermoon in San Francisco

July supermoon in San Francisco

This year’s “supermoon” was on Saturday, July 12. A supermoon is when the Moon’s orbit brings it closer to the Earth (at the perigee) and make it appear larger (especially when it’s full moon and at moon rise). In San Francisco, any summer full moon is a challenging situation to photograph. The summer fog can play troublemaker and block any moon rise. My plan for that supermoon rise was to take a picture of the Moon sitting on top of the Coit Tower. Saturday night was a typical summer evening in San...

Happy 4h of July!

Today is independence day and one fun thing to do on that day, beside pool parties and BBQs, is the fireworks show. I have heard that the shows at Disneyland, South Lake Tahoe and Ala Moana Beach Park are among the best. While waiting for the fireworks to start,  I leave you with a couple images from the New Year’s fireworks (above) and from the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate bridge. If you want to know where to go in San Francisco for the fireworks (and where the top image was taken from), read this post. Be...

Burma/Myanmar – Kyaukhtatgyi, Nga Htat Gyi and Botataung Pagodas

Burma/Myanmar – Kyaukhtatgyi, Nga Htat Gyi and Botataung Pagodas

The three pagodas are not as visited by tourists as the Shwedagon or the Sule pagodas but are absolutely worth a visit. First the Kyaukhtatgyi is home of a 229-foot long reclining Buddha statue. Almost across the street from the Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda, is the Nga that gyi Pagoda which contains the 5-story high sitting Buddha. The Botataung is near the Yangon river and is 2500 years old. The fist image is the interior of the Botataung pagoda. It’s a maze of walls made of gold plates where people come and pray. It is believed that  the...

Burma/Myanmar – Kandawgyi Lake

Burma/Myanmar – Kandawgyi Lake

Kandawgyi Lake (or Great Royal Lake) is an artificial lake in the center of Yangon. It’s a pleasant place where locals start their day exercising (it opens at 5am and it’s free for all until 7am). I went there twice during my stay in Yangoon. The lake is famous for the replica of the Pyigyimon Royal Barge (Karaweik). The barge is made of concrete and was build in 1972. Karaweik or Karaweik Hall is a palace on the eastern shore of Kandawgyi Lake, and is now a restaurant. The restaurant is a tourist attraction because there is...

Postcard from Glacier National Park

Cute Alert ! Be warned there is a lot of cuteness in those pictures. I spent the last couple days in Montana, near Glacier National Park, photographing wildlife. The babies are born and they are so cute. It was fantastic to see them up close. It was a really short trip and I’m already back in California.
