Solar Impulse 2- Takeoff from Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA
In case you never have heard of the fully electric, solar-powered plane called Solar Impulse 2, let me summarize what this post is about. Two pioneers Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard have decided to build and fly all around the world a plane that does not use fuel to fly. It’s a plane powered by the sun (and batteries) that can fly indefinitely. To prove it the pair of pilots and the large team of Solar Impulse are flying the plane across the world. They have started in Abu Dhabi last year and have crossed the Pacific and landed...
Making the best of a El Nino storm in San Francisco
This year was supposed to be a rainy year here in San Francisco, so I was planning a raining shoot. I was looking for a rainy, grey-ish day where my model was wearing the only color in the image. It was raining quite hard on Sunday, we found the streets of San Francisco quite empty. You too can get your own photoshoot session! Contact me. If you want to receive these posts by email, you can subscribe to my mailing list. All the images presented here are available for licensing or as fine art...
Full Moon over Pigeon Lighthouse
The full moon this month was setting right behind Pigeon Lighthouse near Davenport, CA. Usually when the full moon sets over this area, a strong marine layer of fog occludes the moon. Winter is when you get your best chance of clear weather and Sunday morning we were very lucky. There was fog but at a higher altitude, so when the moon went under the fog layer it was perfect.
2015 in images
Last year was not my most productive year as a photographer. I still took over 20000 images but it’s half what I did in 2014. And it’s not because I have not traveled abroad (I went to Ethiopia, Japan, France and Turkey) but I did not go out locally as much as I usually do. My day job kept me busy and I did not have much spare time. Even this blog is suffering from my lack of free time. Finally at the end of February, I was able to compile my best images for 2015. Better late than never is one my motto in life. Interestingly...
Postcard from Istanbul
On my way to Europe, the cheapest flight was transiting thru Istanbul. Yes, I know it’s a 2-hour slight detour when your final destination is Nice, France. But Turkish Airlines had great price and a free 7-day layover. I have always dreamed of Istanbul, the first European city (or the first Asian city depending on how you look at it). It’s the cradle of the European civilization, it used to be a Christian city and now it’s a Muslim one. We could only stay four days, so we picked an AirBnb in Sultanahmet’s...
The 2016 Calendar is here!
This year, for the first time, I made a calendar. This is a 2016 calendar featuring San Francisco. The local printing company I have been using for years, started offering the option to print calendars. At first, I was not convinced of the value of those calendars, but a friend of mine was asking me if I could sell him a print in the $30 range. I did not have a good answer, even the smallest of my prints is more than $30. It made me think of what I could propose at the price point of $30. This calendar is a solution, it’s...
Porsche Rennsport Reunion (5th edition) – part 2
This is my second Rennsport and I was very exited to go back this year with a better access. The theme of this reunion was “Legends of Le Mans”. Most Le Mans Porsche winning cars were on display and racing around the track. If you are interested in the racing portion, check out the first part of this blog. In this second part, I will focus on showing you the most incredible cars I have seen and also how close we could get to them. This is a panoramic view of Laguna Seca during Rennsport V. Over 57000 fans came to see 1820 street...
Porsche Rennsport Reunion (5th edition) – part 1
The Porsche Rennsport Reunion 5th edition (in short Rennsport V) is a gathering of everything that has raced made by Porsche. It includes race cars and drivers, collector vehicles, historic models. This is the 5th edition since 2001 and the second one in Laguna Seca. The title Rennsport was drawn, quite simply, from the German term for “racing.” So the first thing you notice when you arrive at Laguna Seca is noise. There are cars racing! Saturday we watched the Gmund Cup composed of Porsche 550, 550A, RSK, RS60-61 (4&8 cyl.) 2000...
Short Trip series: Weekend at Stinson Beach and Bolinas
After going south to Channel Islands National Park, this short trip will take out not far from San Francisco to Stinson Beach and Bolinas. If you leave in the Bay Area, you have probably been driving to Stinson Beach but the town is very different if you can actually stay there! I knew of Stinson Beach before this trip but I was interested in experiencing the early morning when the day trip folks are not yet there. I found a great rental property about 50ft from the beach. There are literally tons of short term rentals in Stinson or Bolinas,...
